El caballo del pueblo
Manuel Romero
The Town's Horse
I only believe in your love, my partner.
My noble chestnut sorrel horse,
you were only sincere to me
and you have not betrayed my affection.
You have made me shiver
with pride and pleasure.
Your afternoons of triumph!...
But today I only seek in you a companion
and the confidant of my pain.
If in the dangerous elbow of love
I rolled so fiercely,
the revenge with your triumph must have
my disappointment,
because, partner,
your intelligent gaze never fails
nor your swift appearance
nor the mark on your forehead
which is your champion's seal.
You have given me my dearest emotions,
my noble chestnut sorrel horse.
Heir of a lineage of champions.
Sorrel! Dead before defeated.
It is in vain to expect loyalty in a woman,
so false is her heart.
But in you I can place my hopes
because I know you will never betray me.
