A Praça
Marchinhas de Carnaval
The Square
Today I woke up missing you,
I kissed that photo you gave me,
I sat on that bench in the little square just because
That's where our love began.
I felt that all the birds recognized me
Because they understood all my loneliness
They became so sad and even fell silent
So, I wrote this song
The same square, the same bench, / The same flowers, the same garden.
Everything is the same but I'm sad, / Because I don't have you near me.
I kissed that beautiful tree, where I
With my pocketknife, drew a heart
I wrote in the heart my name next to yours
And my great love I then swore.
The guard is still the same who once caught me
Stealing a yellow rose for you
There's still a swing, a seesaw, my love
Children who never stop running.
That good old popcorn man was the one who saw
When, embarrassed, I spoke of love to you
He's still the same ice cream man who witnessed
The first kiss I gave you.
And we keep growing, keep growing and time passes
And never forget the happiness we found.
I will always remember our bench in the square
That's where our love began!
