We want you to be here Jesus
Not to be like the innkeeper of Bethlehem
Nor to be like those wise men believing to have your law
But blind to see that that twelve-year-old child was the king
We want you to be here Jesus
Not to be like those others from Nazareth
Who, having known you, could not accept you
As you well said, no prophet is loved in his own country
And it wouldn't be fair to speak judging their attitude
For we are not better today
The only difference is that their eyes were blindfolded
And you, in your infinite love, have revealed yourself to us
And that's why today we remember you with love
For there has been enough hatred against you
That there have been many people who heard you and rejected you
Closing their ears to your voice
Perhaps you can remember, Lord
Having felt the rejection with pain
Perhaps in some Pharisee or interpreter of the law
Or some other rich young man who loved money more than you
Perhaps you can also remember
A group of fishermen, good men
Some good women, some Nicodemus, too
And even a somewhat late but faithful Joseph of Arimathea
If today after two thousand years you look at us alone again
You may wonder
For how many have I suffered, for how many have I given myself?
Do they remember me or perhaps they have forgotten me?
May you be aware today of the affection and love
That your people still profess to you
For since you received hatred in exchange for your love
Know that we love you oh Lord
Know that in the 20th century there is still youth
That seeks your ways and loves you
And cries out like those on the road to Emmaus
We want you to be here Jesus
