Cigarro de Palha/Boiadeiro
Maria Bethânia
Cigarette and Cowboy
My straw cigarette,
My speedy horse,
My net to catch,
My brindle dog.
When the morning starts to break,
I let the net sway,
I mount my horse,
And leave the dog to watch.
Having a smoke now and then,
To forget and remember,
All I need is a pretty brunette,
For nothing else to be missing,
All I need is a pretty brunette,
For nothing else to be missing.
Cowboy
Go, cowboy, the night is coming,
Round up your cattle and head to your love.
In the early morning when I hit the road,
I’ll take my herd to the winter pasture.
Ten heads is too few, it’s almost nothing,
but there aren’t any prettier ones around.
Go, cowboy, the day is breaking,
Take your cattle and think of your love.
In the late afternoon when I come down the road,
The kids are all waiting for me.
Ten kids is too few, it’s almost nothing,
but there aren’t any cuter ones around.
Go, cowboy, the evening is here,
Take your cattle and think of your love.
And when I reach the gate of my home,
My little Rose comes running to hug me.
She’s tiny, she’s small, she’s almost nothing,
but there’s no one prettier around.
Go, cowboy, the night is coming,
Round up your cattle and head to your love.
