Silent was the peaceful night
and beautiful in the clear sky
the moon, its silvery face
showed happy and full...
When through the air resounded,
until then so silent,
sweet and mournful
the chords of a lute were heard,
and melancholic verses
a Troubadour sang.

Verses of humble prayer
like one who prays to God
in that was repeated
a name...my name!
I hurried to the balcony...
It was him! It was him indeed!...
Joy I felt that only
angels are allowed to feel!...
To the heart, to the ecstatic gaze
the earth seemed like a sky.
