Como La Cigarra
Maria Dolores Pradera
Like The Cicada
So many times they killed me
So many times I died
Yet here I am, resurrecting
I give thanks to misfortune
And to the hand with a dagger
Because it killed me so badly, yet I kept singing
Singing to the sun like the cicada
After a year under the ground
Just like a survivor, returning from war
So many times they erased me
So many times I disappeared
I went to my own burial, alone and crying
I tied a knot in my handkerchief
But then I forgot
That it wasn't the only time, and I kept singing
Singing to the sun like the cicada
After a year under the ground
Just like a survivor, returning from war
So many times they killed you
So many times you will resurrect
So many nights you will spend, despairing
And at the hour of shipwreck
And in the darkness
Someone will rescue you, to keep on singing
Singing to the sun like the cicada
After a year under the ground
Just like a survivor, returning from war
