Balada de la mariposa
María Elena Walsh
Butterfly's Ballad
A butterfly fell in love
With a sailor and chased him
She waited for him at the hotel door
And very happily went with him
On his white cap she landed
And onto the white ship behind him she climbed
To the chimney she flew afterwards
Looking at the sea for the first time
All the love of her one-day life
She lavished with joy
And sang like this facing the sailor
Even if he doesn't look at me, love is present
At dusk, as the Sun sank
She saw the sailor crying
To distract him from his sorrow
She danced in the air over the high seas
She drifted away from the white masts
And a strong wind punished her
She fell into the gray water and drowned
And the sailor didn't even notice
But a single salty tear
Slid without knowing anything
And put an end to the true love
Of the butterfly and the sailor
