El Buen Modo

The Good Way
I have so much to be thankful for
To the one who gave me to drink
When I was dying of thirst
Water in a jug, taste of a well
But a mighty river
It seemed to me
These eyes will not forget
The one who once gave me bread
When hunger afflicted me
Hard crumb, homemade bread
That wheat field of the whole world
It seemed to me
May you always be blessed
For your good way
Because by giving me a little
You gave me everything
Before death
Steals the chance
To repay you
Here I send you my heart
Today I remember the one who yesterday
Knew how to show compassion
When tears were shed
His comfort was scarce
But God with a handkerchief
It seemed to me
I could never forget
The one who once sheltered me
When I had no roof
Poor shack, small cot
But a mansion of the rich
It seemed to me
May you always be blessed
For your good way
Because by giving me a little
You gave me everything
Before death
Steals the chance
To repay you
Here I send you my heart
