Milonga Del Hornero
María Elena Walsh
Hornero's Milonga
Green grass, dry grass
In San Antonio de Areco
The ovenbird Don Perico
Makes mud with its beak
A sparrow passes by and greets
Don't they need help?
We don't need thieves
Answer the fledglings
When the nest is finished
They have a dance with barbecue
Doña Perica, the ovenbird wife
Dances zamba and chacarera
Doña Perica, the ovenbird wife
Dances zamba and chacarera
The mischievous sparrow returns
Dressed as a watchman
Pretending to be distracted
Steals crumbs from the nest
Dad! The fledglings shout
The thieves have entered
Don Perico sees the sparrow
And forces him to be a laborer
Doña Perica calls him
And takes him as a maid
The fledglings, as babysitter
To give them the bottle
The sparrow washes and cooks
Sweeps, irons, sews, and chirps
Look, look what a wonder
A hardworking thief
