La Voix Du Silence
Marie Laforêt
The Voice of Silence
In the past, I didn't know
That there are words that are not heard
But one evening a shadow came
Who told me: Listen a little more
A voice speaks to you in unknown words
Do you hear
Covering the voice of silence?
I went for a walk
The poplars leaned over
To tell me stories
That only they knew
And the wind and the sea
Softly spoke to me
I heard
Covering the voice of silence
And since then I have seen people
Who threw words around
And talked without speaking
Who heard without listening
Proposing known songs
That no voice has ever taken up
And their cries
Cover the voice of silence
Men no longer see the flowers
They have taken wrinkles to their hearts
They hope by making noise
To fill the void in their lives
And even in tone, without a sound
In drops of dew
Muffled
Like the voice of silence
You sleep by my side
And I dare not speak
For fear that my words will blend
With the noise the World makes
But I love you so much
That one day you will understand
You will hear me
Say the words of silence
