Ein Feste Burg Ist Unser Gott

A mighty fortress is our God
A good defense and weapons
He helps us freely out of all trouble
That has now befallen us
The old evil foe
Means it seriously now
Great power and much cunning
His cruel armor is
On earth there is none like him

With our own strength nothing is done
We are soon lost
The right man fights for us
Whom God himself has chosen
You ask, who is he?
He is called Jesus Christ
The Lord of hosts
And there is no other God
He must keep the field

And if the world were full of devils
And wanted to swallow us up
We do not fear so much
It shall succeed for us
The prince of this world
However sourly he behaves
He does nothing to us
That's because he is judged
A word can fell him

They shall let the word stand
And have no thanks for it
He is with us well on the plan
With his spirit and gifts
They may take the body
Goods, honor, child, and wife
Let it all go
They have no gain
The kingdom must remain with us
