Lettera Di La Dal Mare
Massimo Ranieri
Letter from Across the Sea
The night never ends
America is far away
Across the sea
Where luck rains down, where there's freedom
And the water's clearer than a song
And there's silence between two shores
The land is a dream somewhere else
But at one point in the journey, the rain will fall
On every fear and insult
Baby, see, this sea is so dark
Too big not to shake
And then you hold your breath halfway
And everyone goes quiet
And so many pray
If the Lord allows
And the steps lose their rhythm
And nothing seems real
No storm will ever wash away
Our wounds from the salt
Baby, see, this sea is so dark
Too big not to shake
Almost day now
Then time stops
Someone shouts: Land, land, land
Baby, see, this sea is so dark
It's a wound that won't disappear
Where time goes, who knows
And the eyes go quiet
But at night they dream
Of the engine that runs
