In Puerta del Sol, like the year that was
Once again the champagne and grapes
And the smoke covering everything are there

The firecrackers that erase sounds from yesterday
And heat up the spirit to accept
That another year has passed

And in the clock of old, like year after year
Five more minutes for the countdown
We take stock of the good and bad
Five minutes before the countdown

Sailors, soldiers, single ones, married ones
Lovers, wanderers, and some
Distracted priest

Amidst shouts and whistles, the Spaniards
Tall, short, for once we all
Do something together

We take stock of the good and bad

And although there are some new ones for the grapes
We will miss those who are no longer here
