Das Hildebrandslied Teil I
Menhir
The Song of Hildebrand Part I
I heard them say,
that they were preparing for a fight,
Hildebrand and Hadubrand under the battle banner.
Son of a warrior: I’m ready to fight,
let’s get our weapons, let’s draw our swords,
let’s see who’s got the guts to take on the challenge.
Hildebrand stood firm, Heribrand’s son, he was a brave man,
full of courage; he asked, looking around,
where his father was,
lost in the crowd,... "or who the hell are you?
if you’ve got something to say, I’m all ears,
bring it on, I’m ready for a fight. I’m not afraid of you."
Hadubrand stood firm, Hiltibrand’s son:
let’s get our weapons, let’s draw our swords,
let’s see who’s got the guts to take on the challenge.
Hildebrand stood firm, Heribrand’s son, he was a brave man,
full of courage; he asked, looking around,
where his father was,
"they told me about our people,
old tales of glory, how they used to fight,
that Hildebrand was my father: I’m Hadubrand.
Long ago he faced Otachre in battle,
he fought with Theodoric and his many warriors.
He fell in the land of the little ones,
a proud warrior, he was a fierce man:
there was Otachre among the warriors,
a warrior who fought with Theodoric.
There were many people there, but he was the one who fought like a lion:
he was... a man of honor.
I don’t care if you love me or not..."
"You’re a coward," said Hildebrand, raising his sword,
that you don’t dare to stand against such a warrior
is a disgrace...
because you’re just a weakling hiding behind your friends,
trying to act tough, but you’re just a scared little kid,
Huneo, lord: "I’ll give you a chance to prove yourself."
Hadubrand stood firm, Hiltibrand’s son:
"with a sword, a man should fight,
face to face. ...
you’re just a coward, hiding behind your friends,
there was Otachre among the warriors,
a warrior who fought with Theodoric.
There were many people there, but he was the one who fought like a lion:
he was... a man of honor.
I don’t care if you love me or not..."
Huneo, lord: "I’ll give you a chance to prove yourself."
Hadubrand stood firm, Hiltibrand’s son:
"with a sword, a man should fight,
face to face. ...
you’re just a coward, hiding behind your friends,"
