La Mamancy
Mercedes Sosa
The Mamancy
Up above, sun above
I found my heart,
In the shadow of my mama
Under a sky of cactus.
It was the time of wonder,
Of following the sun's trail
Up above sky, above
Where they made the color.
From her hands I saw born
The crafts of laurel
And a whisper of the loom
That wandered around my childhood.
Up above, dream above
My heart woke up
Because sometimes it hurt me
The sadness of the two.
She was there, gestating me,
Mamancy, my mommy,
In her warmth she saw me grow,
Loneliness with loneliness
And her root in my root
Always returns to sing.
She was there, gestating me,
Mamancy, my mommy.
