Zamba de Los Adioses
Mercedes Sosa
Zamba of the Farewells
The evening falls on the willows
By the edge of the canal
The twilight light collapses once again
In the mountain, an empire of sun
The whole landscape seems to say goodbye
Because of that departing light
Here comes the autumn moon
The sandy shore rises higher
Over the vineyards, it spills its light
March moon, dew, and song
The shadow follows me as I leave
Combing through the solitude
How to forget the water
That flowed in the irrigation ditch watering tunes
When you were a legend, my Mendoza
Under the vast sky
Of bright sunshine
Today it remains in absence
And the heart doesn't know how to say goodbye
When I think of you from afar
Green homeland of the vineyard
I will return a child perfumed with love
To the bewitched wind of the sugarcane field
I will delve into dreams through the canal
Watching the farewell go by
No one truly leaves Mendoza
Even if they think they do
Mother is the land and man is the root
A tree that grows in the summer peace
It remains enduring in your blood because I am
The guitar that will return
