El Corazón Al Sur

The Heart To The South
I was born in a neighborhood where luxury was a gamble,
that's why I have my heart looking south.
My old man was a bee in the hive,
clean hands, good soul.
And in that childhood, temperance shaped me,
then life laid out a thousand paths for me
discovered the magnate of the gambler,
that's why I have my heart looking south.
My neighborhood was a jasmine plant,
the shadow of my old lady in the garden,
the sweet celebration of the simplest things
and the peace in the gravel facing the sun...
My neighborhood was my people who are not here
the things that will never return
if since the day I left, with emotion and with the cross
I know I have my heart looking south
I carry the geography of my neighborhood within me,
maybe that's why I never completely left:
the corner, the store, the kids
I recognize them... they are something of mine...
Now I know that distance is not real
and I find myself in that cardinal point
returning to childhood from the light,
always having my heart looking south...
