El Cóndor Vuelve
Mercedes Sosa
The Condor Returns
The condor's sky opens wide
The doors of Tiwanaku through which the storm passes
Awakens my Andean people, and upon awakening
It moves the light of the century with its strong cry of freedom
There in the sleeping valleys, the solitude
Is pregnant with fury and burning red like a volcano
The roots are burning, they are burning
The branches of the new tree, the continental blaze
From the earth comes the voice to me
This people I am sounds like earth
Farmer, sower... landless John
There goes General Sandino and the equator
Draws the hot map of Nicaragua in my heart
With Prestes I am the coffee plantation column
And I go with Camilo Torres, hey, people in arms! hey, storm!
Artigas, take this blood where the light
Returns to Fidel and finds that Güemes guards the Southern Cross
Beyond the mountain range, the sun returns
And America is this blood where liberation goes
The condor of the high Peru returns
This time there will be no Guayaquil
We must unite all the south in one cry
Freedom! land and bread
Freedom!
