El Revolucionario
Miguel Aceves Mejía
The Revolutionary
I'm a revolutionary soldier,
I'm one of those from the cavalry
and if my horse dies in campaigns
well, then I join the infantry.
With my four bandoliers slung
full of thirsty bullets
when we're in the heat of battle
I give my good thirty-thirty a taste.
If I happen to die in the ranks
well, why should I care about life,
I always spend my earnings
with my girl, my most beloved.
Oh, buddy! if you see me getting killed
you keep going with the shots,
just don't make my grave too deep
so I can keep hearing the gunfire.
You can already hear the shrapnel,
the bugle plays a fierce fire,
but today or never, boys, charge in,
you'll see how a golden one fights.
With this, I'm saying goodbye,
I'm leaving as a revolutionary,
if God wants me to come back, well I'll return
if not, pray a novena for me
