Tequila Con Limón
Miguel Aceves Mejía
Tequila with Lime
I carry music in my soul,
And a song right in my chest;
A song that tears me apart
When it’s made with love;
I learned it in those fields,
With scars from the plow;
With slices from machetes
And the strum of the guitar.
I learned it at the cockfight,
Betting on a fine rooster,
And I feel good enough
To sing it right here;
To the pride of Jalisco,
They named me their godson,
And there are no more godchildren,
'Cause they already got me.
Brave and red blood,
Challenging like a knife's edge,
It’s the blood of my people,
Dreamy and full of songs,
Brave and combative blood,
Bold and feisty
Like a cactus thorn.
At the feet of a horse,
I always gamble my cash;
And if I sometimes lose,
I’ll get even in a bet.
I always have on my lips,
The tune that I love most
And to see who gets it next,
And to toast to their health.
And feel the blood boil
All through my whole body
To shout "Long live Jalisco!"
With my soul and heart.
How beautiful, how beautiful
To arrive at a snack bar
And drink from a little cup
A tequila with lime.
Brave and red blood...
