Seca d'Água
Milton Nascimento
Waterless
It's sad for the Northeast what nature has done
Sent five years of drought and one rain each month
And now in '85 sent everything at once
The fate of the Northeasterner is really pitiful
Drought without rain is bad
But waterless drought is worse
When it rains gently, grass quickly grows
It gives corn, rice, and beans, cassava, and peanuts
But like in '85, even the toad found it bad
Maranhão and Piauí are suffering over there
But the greatest suffering is around here
Pernambuco, Rio Grande, Paraíba, and Ceará
The fate of the Northeasterner is really pitiful
Drought without rain is bad
But waterless drought is worse
The Jaguaribe flooded the city of Iguatu
And Sobral was flooded by the Acaraú River
The same damage was done to Salgado and Banabuiu
Ceará martyred, I feel sorry for you
Limoeiro, Itaíçaba, Quixeré, and Aracati
It's sad to see the lament of the refugees from there
Your doctor governors of our great nation
The scourge of floods is heart-wrenching
Many families living without home, without clothes, without bread
The fate of the Northeasterner is really pitiful
Drought without rain is bad
But waterless drought is worse
