Sou do Fado

I am fado, as I know
I live a sung poem
In the fados that I’ve created
I can’t express it in words
But I put my soul into singing
Because souls know how to listen to me

Cry, cry poets of my land
Branches of the same root, of the life that brought us together
And if you weren’t by my side
Then there would be no fado, nor fadistas like I am

This voice so full of pain
Is the fault of all of you
Poets of my life
It’s madness, I hear them say
But blessed is this madness
Of singing and suffering
