Uma Lágrima no Rio
Moacyr Franco
A Tear in the River
On the bank of Tijuco,
I saw an old man sobbing
Drop by drop his sorrow
Tijuco was carrying away
I feel sorry for those who cry
Even more for an elder
When an old man wets his eyes
His tears are justified
I asked: 'my old friend
What makes you cry like this?'
With his eyes on the river
He said without looking at me
'My friend, I loved so much,
I planted love too much
It's a desert from corner to corner
No flower has bloomed
My struggle was in vain
I threw words away
People who touched my heart
Now lie, steal, and kill'
I was getting emotional
With this old man on his knees
Even unprepared
I risked my advice
Kneeling beside him,
I spoke without pretension
Don't mind my advice
It's what my heart says
'Right here in Uberaba
Believe it or not,
Who can console you, friend,
Is Chico Xavier'
'Thank you for your advice,
But it was of no use,
It increased my despair,
I am Chico Xavier!!!'
