The dream maker

I've traveled far and wide
accompanied by my violin
and the wind of travelers
has always been my friend
I know all the bridges
the sidewalks and the stations
and in every place and every corner
I've left a song

I perform for passersby
for the poor and the gentlemen
because there's no man
without music in his heart
and I play for the girls
for the serious and the bold
because there's no woman
who says no to a serenade

And I wander with my violin
through the squares and the streets
people around dance
and find time to dream

Every night I count the money
scattered at the bottom of my hat
I fall asleep under a ceiling
covered by stars
I always find a hot meal
in the markets and fairs
because where there's a violin
everyone is happy
I've met a thousand women
and I've enchanted every woman
with the story of the wanderer
and the wisdom of the street
the children celebrate me
and line up to listen
because they know that the musician
is an old friend to follow
