La Strada
Modena City Ramblers
The Road
Of all the poets and crazies
we've met on the road
I've kept a face or a name
a tear or some laughter
we drank in Galway
did late nights in Lisbon bars
rediscovered Italian stories
on the notes of some song.
We traveled together
and listened to the voices of the mad
met the strangest people
and took on travel companions
some stayed
some left and never heard from again
one day you too decided
a hug and then you left.
Safe travels dear brother
and good journey wherever you go
maybe one day we can meet
again along the road.
Of all the countries and squares
where we parked the van
we spent a minute listening
to a partisan or some drunkard
the strange stories of old men at the bar
and children with desert tea
were life lessons
that I learned and still keep.
Safe travels...
I'm not crying over past times
or the past and the same old stories
because it's stupid to make a fuss
over a memory or some song
don't look back I beg you
no regrets for what has been
may the stars always guide you
and the road take you far away.
Safe travels...
