Na Volta Que o Mundo Dá
Monica Salmaso
On the Turn the World Gives
One day I felt a deep desire
To venture into this world
To see where the world will lead
I left my corner by the river
And went to a ship's deck
Heading towards the sea
I stepped on many ports of foreign language
Loved many single girls
Sang many songs over there
I crossed mountain ranges, glaciers, and deserts
The world became close to me
And the earth stopped spinning
With time
Something started to grow in my chest
A difficult tightness to explain
Longing, not sure for what
Sadness, not sure why
Even feeling like crying without wanting to
Anguish of not understanding
A boredom that one can't believe
Desire to forget everything and return
I gathered my things in a cloth bag
Telegraphed to my brother
Saying I was going to arrive
Now I learned why the world turns
The more we let go
The more we stay in the same place
