Fable
A village listens sadly
To the song of a wounded bird
It's the only bird in the village
And it's the only cat in the village
That half-devoured it
And the bird stops singing
The cat stops purring
And licking its muzzle
And the village gives the bird
Wonderful funerals
And the cat, who is invited
Walks behind the little straw coffin
Where the dead bird lies
Carried by a little girl
Who can't stop crying
If I had known it would hurt you so much
Says the cat
I would have eaten it whole
And then I would have told you
That I saw it fly away
Fly away to the end of the world
Where it's so far away
That one never returns
You would have had less sorrow
Just sadness and regrets.
One should never do things halfway.
