El Perezoso
Nacha Guevara
The Sloth
Nacha: And now, what do we continue with?
Alberto: Would you like to continue with the sloth song?
Nacha: Hm, do you think so?
Alberto: Yes, I think so
Nacha: Well, let's see...
We all know lazy people, who have their heads in the clouds. But there is a lazy animal that has its feet in the clouds. It's the sloth. Actually, to sing this song, I would have to hang upside down, but I tried and it's a bit uncomfortable, so if you are so kind and to listen to it, stand on your heads and we will get, more or less, the same effect.
A sloth is what I am
Happy with myself I am
I live a life full of peace
I like to wander
I have three toes on each foot
Which makes a total of six
And fruits and flowers to eat
How beautiful to be lazy
The world is full of honesty
If you look at it backwards
Here sorrows are joys
There are no falls
I like to watch flutter
The flies and moths
And imagine the wonders I would do gladly
If I weren't a sloth
I would have invented the umbrella
And climbed Aconcagua one day
I would have married an alchemist
And would be the greatest of athletes
Play the clarinet very well
Start a factory making socks
Catch a thief
Be a pharaoh
Be a millionaire
Run a newspaper
And paint the Mona Lisa
Go to mass early on Sundays
Write the nine symphonies in a single day
It's not that I lack talent
What I lack is time
And I spend my life from branch to branch
The trees are my bed
I like to feel the languor
Of being hung by the feet
While the beavers, always in a hurry
Run around everywhere
I look at the sky
Through my fingers
How beautiful
To be lazy
