Mi Marylin Particular
Nacho Vegas
My Particular Marilyn
Suddenly I woke up in a huge hallway.
I looked both ways and saw only doors,
And on each one, big letters read:
This is not an exit.
Behind one of them, I found you,
Naked and scared, pressed against the wall.
You winked at me, I stepped closer and heard your voice.
"Whenever you say, I can disappear."
And I didn’t think much of what I heard
And that was my big mistake.
I could hit you and it was still fine.
I humiliated you, I violated you, and you stood tall.
And though it’s not like me,
I wanted to give you a name and let you choose:
"What do you want to be called?"
You answered me like this: "Marilyn."
And even though you weren’t blonde,
And even though you didn’t speak English,
And even though you were more than stupid,
And even though I don’t even know if you were a woman,
Anyway, you would be my particular Marilyn.
Like rivers flow,
Just like the wind blows, that’s how love destroys
And I knew it the moment you repeated there:
"Whenever you say, I can disappear."
And now if I tremble in pain,
And if I howl in pain,
And if I bark in pain,
And if I wail in pain, it’s for you, Marilyn,
It’s for you, my Marilyn,
And besides, it’s my way of singing, la, la, la ...
I never imagined that a little love
Could cause so, so much pain.
How was I supposed to guess
That someone who was unreal could hurt me?
And the door closed,
And that’s how I lost you, Marilyn ... Marylin ...
They say I’m crazy,
They say I’ve lost my mind.
They could beat me up, they could burn me at the stake,
Do whatever they want with me,
But only I know the truth,
And the truth is that yes, I, I loved you, Marilyn.
