The Shore
I saw a desolate field
I saw an empty shore
I felt the air with a scent of snow
And dry, dusty sand
I saw a horizon
I saw cliffs of granite
A sky so blue and bare
A sun so cold and white
I hardly knew at all
How I got there
It was like the start of everything
And a seabird's cry
I saw two angels, fighting
In a muddy pit
Blood on their wings
Mud and soot
I saw two people in a cave
Staring at the blue
Pressed against each other
Shaking and small
Wrapped against the cold
In a red and dirty blanket
I saw a shadow lower
Towards the rock nearby
I saw a fire on the beach
I smelled the wood's scent
I saw how the logs lifted
And turned to dust
By the fire sat an old man
He was frying fish
I walked and walked so close
It felt like no risk
He tipped his hat
His hair was gray and white
At his feet lay three kids asleep
So safe on a blanket
He offered me a spot by the fire
Without any words
The kids slept and snored
In the bed of our earth
He put a log on the fire
And flames rose to the sky
And the dance of the flames
Became a strange sight
They whispered and rustled
And took on a life of their own
It was like the start of everything
And a seabird's cry
I saw a flowery field
With people dancing
I saw a stormy sea
And a knight with a lance
I saw playing children
Safe in a meadow
I saw waving grain fields
In pouring rain
And the old man wrote in the sand
With a stick burned by soot
And a bird in flight
Could probably read his words
[spoken]
Where there is land, we will plow it together
Where there is bread, we will eat it together
Where there are clothes, we will share them with each other
Where there is money, it should belong to everyone
There shall be equality
Where no one freezes, and no one goes hungry
