Country Girl
Country girl, if I could,
If God gave me
The space to fly,
I would run through nature
And end the sadness
Just so I wouldn't see you cry.
In the illusion of this poem
I would steal a diadem
From the sky to offer you
And where the fountain murmurs
I would build your church,
Inside it, your altar.
Country girl, why do you cry
When I sing
Country girl, if this song
Is all yours?
Country girl, to dry
Your little eyes
You will hear the birds
That sing more than I do.
The sadness of your tears
Is sadder when I sing
The song I wrote for you
And your eyes, at this moment,
Shine brighter than the brightest
Of the stars I have ever seen.
Country girl, I'm leaving!...
The longing comes now
And the joy comes later.
I'll climb these mountains,
Build there in other lands
A little ranch for both of us.
(Country girl, why do you cry when I sing?).
