Sonho de Agrestina
Nem Walter
Dream of Agrestina
Last night I lay down
When I fell asleep, I dreamed
And in the dream I saw
When Agrestina arrived
When she arrived, she sat down
On the edge of my bed
From her sorrowful drama
She revealed a little to me
In the dream she said like this
Don't be afraid of me
My flesh has come to an end
That death is only once
I am here with you
I am a great friend
And whoever killed me
One day will pay for what they did
She said with a tearful face
Keep my leather hat
As a memory to Zé de Louro
Jacaréu and Manelzinho
And to my compadre Macalzinho
Tell him it was pitiful
If he saw my scene
Me ending alone
At that moment I remembered
Of you with whom I played
And the cries I let out
In the rodeos I attended
But I couldn't scream
In that sad affliction
Seeing that my heart
Didn't deserve that
The enemy struck
And the others mocked
And I, poor, couldn't
Defend myself from it
Seeing my blood flow
I knew I was dead
And to give you comfort
In a dream, I came to tell you
I said: Tell Expedito
To tell Manelzito
That the most distressing moment
I have finished going through
I didn't think I would end
Without any defense
Only the bones remain
For those who want to visit
For the people who come and go
In Serra da Russa there is
Also a bloodstain
That I left as a memory
And the tears I shed
As a sign of farewell
In the last moments of life
In the corner where I ended
She said: Go quickly
Sing this tune and ask
Since no one cares
I don't know what's wrong
Helping you come
Don't get angry with the work
Tell the men that my blood
Is Brazilian too
But my blood is unpunished
That Jesus from heaven gathers
And fate punishes one day
I trust in Him
They humiliated His life
To a given cal faz
And I suffered much more
Humiliation than He did
Even my eyes were gouged out
And after they killed me
There they threw my body
Into a deep abyss
In a place in this world
Resembling a grave
That only vultures give evidence
That it is part of the world
Everything I owned
Ended that day
Also the last agony
I went through and now I rest
I was a great friend of the cattle
With whom I could have fun
And now I will ask God
To forgive my sins
At that moment I woke up
From bed and got up
I looked and only saw
A woman sleeping
A cold breeze blew
Gentle, calm, sweet and fine
Dreaming of Agrestina
I wrote this poem
A cold breeze blew
Gentle, calm, sweet and fine
Dreaming of Agrestina
