And the master of the king of baião
I am voice melody I am passion
Of a people who sing their people
A cowboy who makes his repentance
Mooing the things of the backlands

I grew up with couscous and mung bean
Sun-dried meat in oil rice pudding
My table didn't have much decoration
We ate what we could afford
It was corn cake and cornmeal
Malassada with egg and with beiju
My mouth numb with imbu
And the canjica cooling on the stove

I played marbles and played spinning top
I flew kites and shot slingshots
My car was a roller skate
I was the king in cops and robbers
I was He-Man Superman I was Samson
With the girls from the street I was the artist
Pear grape apple mixed salad
Since young woman was temptation

My life was inside a corral
Since young sitting in a cell
On Sundays I went to mass in the chapel
Begging God to send rain
Once I went to see the sea
So much wasted water that I cried
If it were sweet I tell you
It would quench the thirst of my backlands

I am of us I am of home I am root
From the battle of a people I am the sum
In the handle of the hoe my diploma
In the sweat of my body my chassis
Not everything is the way I wanted
But in life not everything is lost
What matters is that God is with me
And I believe in your salvation

What I want from life is to be happy
To see my children grow up close
To give them what I couldn't have
Health, leisure and education
Like someone who has fulfilled their mission
To receive anyone with open arms
To pluck my life in my verses
To finish my life in the backlands
