Chalice of Bitterness
Like a criminal, Jesus was condemned
By crowds he was dragged
Like a king, He was crowned
His great love led Jesus to be crucified
And the Sun didn't shine (didn't shine, didn't shine)
The day didn't dawn (didn't dawn, didn't dawn)
And the temple veil was torn from top to bottom
And the Sun didn't shine (didn't shine, didn't shine)
The day didn't dawn (didn't dawn, didn't dawn)
God Himself felt the chalice of bitterness
And it was almost the sixth hour
The Sun darkened, darkness fell over all the land
And the sanctuary veil was torn in two
Then, Jesus cried out in a loud voice
Saying: Father, into Your hands I commit my Spirit
And saying this, He breathed His last
Seeing what had happened, the centurion
Gave glory to God, saying
Truly, this is the Son of God!
They gave Him vinegar instead of water
And from His body, blood flowed
A vile and deep suffering
Jesus endured to save this world
And the Sun didn't shine (didn't shine, didn't shine)
And the day didn't dawn (didn't dawn, didn't dawn)
And the temple veil was torn from top to bottom
And the Sun didn't shine (didn't shine, didn't shine)
And the day didn't dawn (didn't dawn, didn't dawn)
God Himself felt the chalice of bitterness
