Romance do Petiço Mitay
Noel Guarany
Petiço Mitay's Romance
In my wanderings in the theater
As a singer and guitarist
In the estate of a Rio Grande
A gaucho missionary
In the state of Mato Grosso
Good and hospitable people
It is customary in this land
To have fun and play
Not to let a Sunday pass
Without running some races
Essence of my Rio Grande
That crossed borders
The farmer asked me
If I was a racer
If I only sang verses
If I was just a repentant
If I wanted to know
The fletes of Bela Vista
I answered very happily
Full of satisfaction
Show me your herd
And I'll give you a definition
As he showed me the horses
I gave him an explanation:
Beautiful herd
I haven't seen another like it in the world
Blood, race, provenance
Pedigree notebook
And a little horse without breed
That I named Mitay
This little horse
About a meter tall
Soon caught attention
That mini figure
That the kids took care of
For running around
Singing in the taverns
I heard a comment
That they brought from Dourados
A little adversary
Who had run throughout the state
And found no match
They presented in the field
The so-called monarch little horse
They arrived making noise
With shouting and fuss
If matched in size
Had no hair or mark
We even laughed
Responding at the moment
We ran with Mitay
Small but talented
Size, my companions
Today is not a requirement
We started the race
And the people laughed
They gave light to any shot
And even doubled down
I spread the blanket in the field
And asked the crowd to come.
I played what I had
Knife, revolver, guitar
I even played my accordion
Which is dear to me
I played a steer without a herd
A sow and two piglets
I just didn't play my soul
Because I have devotion
When they shouted that they were coming
It was time for me to laugh
The most unequal race
I've ever seen in my life;
The jockey of Mitay
Threw away the whip
And the 'Paraguayans' commented
Run beautifully, my friend
And so was the race
So discussed and talked about
We with money in our pockets
And the others with swollen heads
On Mitay's hooves
I kept the cattle in the winter pasture.
