Sommerabend
Novalis
Summer Evening
It was on a summer evening
as he sat alone by the sea
the last weak rays of sun
rocked in the waves to sleep
Through the strings of his chest
a warm summer wind blows
the soft whisper of the sea waves
makes his limbs quickly weary
Far away from him lies this world
that he has chosen for life
however, too far away
lie treasures hidden from him
This night gently envelops him
making his eyes heavier
as if into a deep tomb
he then falls into peaceful sleep
Now he sees the future
shrouded in the dark night
A voice echoes from afar
the time is near, to act soon
The day is like the night
that makes you melancholic
if you want to live in joy
you must also give love
He now seeks a way
to understand people
on all his paths
he only wants to bring them joy
down into the sea
sank the present's dread
and now he can confidently
look into the future
A new day dawned for him
he was happy with life again
he jumped around and rejoiced
why wasn't it always like this
Confidently life progresses
towards eternal life
widened by inner fire
our senses are transfigured
The world of stars will dissolve
into the golden wine of life
we will enjoy it
and be stars ourselves
