Now the meadows shine with all the summer flowers
Now bees buzz and birds sing everywhere
Now the wind strokes through the tall crowns of the trees
But in my garden it's withered, dark, and cold
Here it's overgrown, ugly, and tangled
And just as hopelessly dull and gray as in my chest
Out there it smells of all the scents of summer
There it's summer but in here it's autumn

I lived happily here with you and my cats
A life in sin and without care to be saved
Reconciled with my character, for I have never
Been able to say no to anything at all
And never denied myself this or that
And lived life until I was crushed one day
It started with you cheating on me with another
One you said was much finer than me

Our quarrel lasted weeks, shouts mixed with tears
And I was thoroughly compared to your fine friend

Then it was dead silent here in the garden again
From that moment on, that man was doubly hated
