Boi Lâmina Azul
Onildo Barbosa
Blue Blade Bull
I met the blue blade
At the Ipanema farm
Son of a Turina race
Bringing the fate of being brave
Thick tail and sharp tip
And hooves the color of yolk
Flat and rocky terrain
Was a party for him
As agile as a pigeon
He ran without stumbling
Had a cross on his back
And seven stars on his forehead
Manuca from Ipanema
Called the cowboys from the south
From the Cariri of the backlands
Came a champion cowboy
But none could touch
The blue blade's tail
Cowboys from all over
Gathered there
But it was no use
The frightened cowboy ran
The horse died tangled
But the blue blade didn't fall
From the famous Pernambuco
Came more than one clever cowboy
From Rio Grande do Norte
A cowboy faced death
Tired but not lucky
To get close to him
A big black man appeared
Looking like a foreman
With two meters tall
White boots dark clothes
Either the devil in figure
Or too similar
The black man's horse
Was also dark
Spent the night tied
Near the cattle pen
And the black man standing on one side
Without talking to anyone
At four in the morning
The group was already up
From the yard to the pens
There were too many cowboys
They went to see the animals
Saddle up and have coffee
Some ate couscous with milk
Others cheese and roasted meat
Some wanted hot coffee
Others drank brandy
Many people ate
And only the black man didn't want anything
The cowboys from the farm
João Belo and José Maria
Dom Vital led the way
Walking quickly
Towards the east
Where the blue blade slept
When they arrived in front
José Maria shouted
There goes the blue blade running
They saw the black man crossing himself
And the horse looking like
It was pushed by a hurricane
Then everyone advanced
Where the black man had gone
Leaving a trail
Of favela and thornbush
Mororó and aroeira
And angico branches on the ground
They were still dragging
The wire fences that were there
Jumping over a full stream
Tearing through the forest
And the black man shouting ugly
That even the forest trembled
Half a league ahead
The bull was already tied
And the black man dirty with mud
Mounted and entered the thicket
The blade lost its fame
And the black man took over the pasture
After the bull on the farm
They noticed two more signs
Another sign on one side
That the black man had left
Saying: I'm in a hurry
And goodbye forever
