Veris Leta Facies

Carl Orff Carl Orff

The Joyful Face of Spring

The joyful face of spring
is offered to the world,
the winter's army
is already defeated and put to flight,
in varied attire
Flora reigns supreme,
in the sweet-sounding
chant of the groves is celebrated.

Phoebus, lying in the lap
of Flora, in a new manner,
gives a smile, with this varied
flower now adorned.
Zephyrus, breathing
nectar-like fragrance.
Competing for the prize
we run eagerly in love.

Sweet Philomena sings
with her lyre,
the meadows now serene
laugh with varied flowers,
the throng of birds
leaps through the pleasant woods,
the choir of virgins
already promises a thousand joys.
