Ecce gratum (Original)
Carl Orff
Behold the Pleasure (Original)
1.
Behold the pleasing
and desired
spring brings joy,
the meadow blooms in purple,
the sun brightens everything,
now let sadness yield!
summer returns
now departs
the servitude of winter.
2.
Now melts away
and diminishes
hail, snow, and the rest,
winter flees
and now sucks
the breasts of summer:
that person is miserable,
who neither lives
nor enjoys
under the right hand of summer.
3.
They boast
and rejoice
in the honey of sweetness
those who strive,
to make use
of Cupid's reward:
let us, by the command of Venus,
boast
and rejoice
in being equal to Paris.
