Orgulho de Ser Caipira
Os Dois Mineiros
Proud to be a Hillbilly
I have a farm by the riverbank
I live life with great pleasure
There I have no annoyance
I struggle with life to survive
On the porch, a hammock set up
I take a nap after lunch
And then I go fish for piapara
Sitting in the shade by the well
I have milk from five cows
To make cheese, sweets, and curd
A small piece of plowed land
To plant rice and beans
I have an orchard of various fruits
Many chickens in the chicken coop
A small stream to operate the water mill
And a mutt to guard the yard
Many people trade the backcountry
For the comfort they find in the city
Leaving behind their enchanted kingdom
Always suffering, crying with longing
I am one of those who, despite everything
Still sow the seed in the ground
What would I do in the city
If here in the countryside I lack no bread
I am a hillbilly, I say yes sir
I am a hillbilly with calloused hands
I hardly had any schooling
My speech is not refined
But I am proud to be a hillbilly
Speaking incorrectly, I make myself understood
Thanks to God, I was born in the backcountry
And there in the backcountry, I want to die
