Eso No Es Amor
Pablo Milanés
That's Not Love
I used to tell you every morning,
your body is not strong,
your cough is not good,
and the light that came in illuminated you for me
and you smiled saying no.
The time passed and my fear increased,
in that measure my love increased.
The fear of losing you tormented me,
living to see you was my obsession.
What luck, and what pain
that I can feel like this,
I am strong and I will have the courage
to protect you.
One beautiful afternoon among ferns and flowers,
I spoke to you sensing a dark ending:
if you get sick, I'll take care of you and fill you with love
and you would reply: that's not love.
A room in darkness and in full rest,
a body waiting to leave life,
no words are exchanged, no sob is heard
and it's only death taking its place.
I watch as you go,
I call you for the last time,
she couldn't hear me anymore,
she opened the door and left. That's not love
