No Me Pidas
Pablo Milanés
Don't Ask Me
Don't ask me,
to say yes to everything
you will get tired,
I no longer throw
my reins to the wind until the end.
Don't hold me back
if you see that I can risk my safety
down below I may have it and it will come.
That apparent naivety
without pretensions, yes,
is my truth.
From my bones
let them make a golden dust of dawn,
not even death that surprises me unintentionally.
The desired
sometimes makes you look beyond,
the achieved
sees you sitting descending.
A full cult to the truth
is worth a thousand years more than giving up.
Don't ask me,
to say yes to everything
you will get tired,
I no longer throw
my reins to the wind until the end.
