Si El Poeta Eres Tú
Pablo Milanés
If You Are the Poet
If you are the poet,
As the poet said,
And the one who has brought down stars
In a thousand nights
Of colorful rains is you,
What do I have to tell you, commander.
If the one who showed his profile to the future
And inaugurated it with rifle voices
Was you, warrior forever, eternal time,
What can I sing to you, commander.
In vain I search for your pain in my guitar
And in my garden everything is beautiful, there is no fear,
What can I leave you, commander
That is not to exchange my guitar for your fate;
Or deny a song to the sun
Or die without love.
What can I sing to you, commander
If you are the poet
As the poet said
And the one who has brought down stars
In a thousand nights of colorful rains is you,
What can I sing to you, commander.
