¿Quién Me Ha Robado El Mes de Abril?
Pablo Milanés
Who Stole My April?
At the inn of failure,
Where there's no comfort or elevator,
Abandonment and dampness
Share a mattress
And when, on the street,
Life passes by like a hurricane,
The man in the gray suit
Pulls out a dirty calendar from his
Pocket and shouts:
Who stole my April?
But how could it happen to me?
Who stole my April?
I kept it in the drawer
Where I keep my heart.
The girl from bup failed almost
All her subjects
The year she got pregnant
That guy left her.
And when the Latin teacher
Calls roll on the board
Tears of heartbreak
Roll down the page of a notebook
And she writes:
Who stole my April?
How could it happen to me?
But who stole my April?
I kept it in the drawer
Where I keep my heart.
My mother's husband
Who left on the last train
With a hairdresser
Twenty years younger
And when they show those smiles
From an instamatic in Paris,
Defeated on the couch,
She withers watching Falcon Crest
My old lady thinks:
Who stole my April?
How could it happen to me?
But who stole my April?
I kept it in the drawer
Where I keep my heart.
