La Poesía es un Arma Cargada de Futuro

Paco Ibañez Paco Ibañez

Poetry is a Loaded Weapon of the Future

When nothing is personally expected anymore, exhilaratingly
more is felt and followed beyond consciousness
fiercely existing, blindly affirming
like a pulse that beats the darkness
That beats the darkness

When the dizzying clear eyes of death
are faced head-on
The truths are spoken
The barbaric, terrible, loving cruelties
Loving cruelties

Poetry for the poor, necessary poetry
Like daily bread
Like the air we demand thirteen times per minute
to be and while we are, to give a glorifying yes

Because we live through blows, because we are barely allowed
to say who we are
our songs cannot be without sin an ornament
We are hitting rock bottom
We are hitting rock bottom

I curse the poetry conceived as a cultural luxury for the neutral
Who, filling their hands, disengage and evade
I curse the poetry of those who have not taken sides
Taking sides to exhaustion

I make their faults mine, I feel in me all who suffer
And I sing while breathing
I sing and sing and sing beyond my sorrows
Beyond my personal sorrows
I expand, I expand

It is not a poetry drop by drop thought out
It is not a beautiful product
It is not a perfect fruit
It is the most necessary: what has no name
They are cries in the sky, and on earth they are actions

Because we live through blows
Because we are barely allowed
to say who we are
our songs cannot be without sin, an ornament
We are hitting rock bottom
We continue hitting rock bottom
