Es Amarga la Verdad
Paco Ibañez
The Truth is Bitter
For the truth is bitter, I want to spit it out
and if it touches the soul with its gall, hiding it is foolishness
let it be known then, freedom has been born in my laziness
Poverty
Who makes the blind a gallant and the foolish prudent?
Who serves as the Jordan River to the old miser?
Who turns stones into bread, without being the true God?
Money
Who with fierceness scares the scepter and crowns the king?
Who, lacking law, deserves the name of saint?
Who with humility raises the head to the heavens?
Poverty
Who, with passion, makes judges human without ointment?
for by greasing their hands, it softens their hearts
Who spends their wealth with gold and not with steel?
Money
Who ensures that vain glory stays away from the ground?
Who, being so Christian, has the face of a heretic?
Who causes man to suffer from contempt and sadness?
Poverty
For the truth is bitter, I want to spit it out
and if it touches the soul with its gall, hiding it is foolishness
let it be known then, freedom has been born in my laziness
