Utopia
Padre Zezinho
Utopia
Of many things
From my childhood
I keep alive in memory
The comfort of my home
In the late afternoon
When everything quieted down
The family would settle
There on the porch to talk
My parents had
Neither school nor money
Every day, all year round
They worked non-stop
We lacked everything
But we didn't mind
The important things didn't lack
Your smile, your gaze
So many times
I saw my father come home tired
But that was sacred
He would comfort each one
And ask
Who had misbehaved
And mom would defend us
Everything slowly fell into place
The sun would set
Someone would bring the guitar
Everyone would then ask
For dad to sing with us
Out of tune
A bit hoarse and with a tired voice
He would sing a thousand tunes
His gaze towards the setting sun
Time passed
Today I see the wonder
Of having a family
When so many don't have one
Now they talk
About separation and divorce
Love has turned into a partnership
A commitment of no one
And there are so many children
Who, more than a palace
Would like a hug
And the affection between their parents
If parents loved each other
Divorce wouldn't come
They call that utopia
I call it peace
