El Chuico Y La Damajuana
Violeta Parra
The Chuico and the Damajuana
The chuico and the damajuana
After much complaining
To end the gossip
Decide to get married.
They got on a cart
Pulled by green oxen,
One was called chicha
And the companion aguardiente.
Since this happened in winter
And it had rained so much
They had to cross
A river of white wine.
At the church door
They met the priest
Who prayed the mysteries
With a rosary of grapes.
As they only invited
Family members
The godfather was a barrel
And the godmother a pipe.
When they returned from the town
They were received by
A wineskin of white wine
And a wineskin of red wine.
As it was all set up
And to start the party
A glass went out to dance
Waltzes with a bottle.
The party was so lively
And of long duration
That according to a funnel
It lasted until it was over.
