Hijo Que Tiene a Sus Padres
Violeta Parra
Child with Parents
A child with parents
Has a milk cow
The richness, the porridge
And a cool bottle to sip
If he has everything at hand
Because his parents raise him
When they let him out in the world
He'll crash into life
It's not bad that his parents
Who brought him to this earth
Teach him from a young age
About the nuts of this rough life
Sick, tired, and sad
The father’s stuck in the office
The son, late, way too late
Will pull back the curtain
So the son can enjoy
Music and feasts
The father signed debts
That he pays off with death
If the son knew in time
What his parents wove
Maybe there wouldn't be the chasm
That lies between them
The father complains about the son
Who’s almost of age
And that he’s still a baby
To earn his own bread
And the son says the father
Has a conscience like poison
The mother cries and cries
Seeing so much irreverence
They treat each other like enemies
Because they don’t know each other
One sinned from innocence
The other from being spoiled
There should be a school opened
With bright blackboards
There, the kids will learn
Not to be such ostriches
Another school for the parents
With notebooks of virtue
Where we learn the language
That youth speaks
I proclaim the hen
As the model mother
Who teaches her chick
The reality after hatching
I taught the elders
How terrible fire is
But I neglected the youngest
Here lies my blind knot.
